Jose Luis, a 21-year-old from Carolina, Puerto Rico, is competing on Team Gwen in The Playoffs. Growing up in Puerto Rico, Jose was immersed in a culture rich with vibrant music and always dreamed of becoming a pop musician in the mainland U.S. His aunt, Wally Waleska, played a crucial role in his journey, encouraging his dreams and introducing him to music despite not being related by blood. One of Jose’s earliest inspirations was watching Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance” performance on Wally’s TV at age 5—a moment that cemented Gaga as his idol and sparked his desire for a career in music. After his great-grandmother, who was a pillar of unity and selflessness in his family, passed away in 2021, Jose faced mental health challenges. With the support of a therapist, he found tools to manage his emotions and ultimately rediscovered his passion for music. Now, he’s determined to fulfill his dream of becoming a pop star by conquering The Voice stage.
