The groundbreaking “Songs of Faith” episode, airing April 20, 2025, will feature the Top 20 contestants performing songs inspired by their spiritual beliefs as they compete to advance in the competition.

🥔 “Gold Flakes” Potatoes Stun Superbad Star on Top Chef
In a delicious twist of nostalgia, Top Chef Season 22 contestant Vincenzo “Vinny” Loseto paid homage to Michael Cera’s iconic Superbad role with gold-flaked potatoes that left the actor visibly amused during his guest judge appearance.
The culinary tribute occurred during Episode 4’s Elimination Challenge, where chefs created savory dishes inspired by Canadian desserts while filming in Toronto. Loseto, tasked with reimagining PEI’s potato chocolate cake, served miso-chocolate glazed potatoes with caviar vin blanc—complete with a deliberate gold dusting that immediately caught Cera’s attention.
“I’m sure you’re wondering why there’s gold on there,” Loseto explained to judges dining on Casa Loma’s lawn.
“One of my favorite movies is Superbad, including this gentleman right here on his quest to deliver a bottle of gold-flake vodka to a very pretty girl.”
– Vinny Loseto
Cera, clearly tickled by the reference to his Superbad character Evan’s memorable liquor store escapade, responded with characteristic dry humor: “That’s great. Do we have to eat it, or is there a way to keep it?”
The potatoes earned respectable feedback from judges, though they noted the dish could have featured more pronounced chocolate flavors. Earlier in the episode, Loseto had drawn personal parallels to the actor, declaring, “Michael F*cking Cera! Superbad reminds me of the pursuit of girls and fake IDs and alcohol. I think we’re very similar.”
Fans quickly noted on social media that the chef and actor do share a striking resemblance—making the gold-flaked tribute even more fitting as America’s Top Chef continues its Canadian culinary tour, with Mattea Roach and Amy Schneider of Jeopardy! fame joining Cera as guests for the special Toronto episode.
