⚡ Former NFL Star Mel Owens Named New Golden Bachelor

66-year-old attorney and father of two hopes to find his “perfect teammate” when the hit franchise returns for its second season. ABC has officially announced Mel Owens as the next Golden Bachelor, following in Gerry Turner’s footsteps as the senior-focused dating show continues its successful run.
The former Los Angeles Rams player transitioned from professional football to practicing law in Orange County after being selected ninth overall in the 1981 NFL Draft and playing for 9 seasons. According to ABC, Owens devoted himself to fatherhood following his divorce, focusing on raising his two sons and coaching their sports teams.
At 66, Owens is ready to prioritize finding companionship again, seeking a relationship “rooted in the simple joys of companionship — sharing life’s everyday moments, making plans for the future and growing stronger together as a couple.”
In other Bachelor Nation news, former Bachelorette Hannah Brown is joining Bachelor in Paradise season 10, hosting rose ceremonies in the new “Champagne Lounge” as the show relocates to Costa Rica after previously filming in Mexico.
For the first time ever, Golden contestants will also be heading to Paradise, with Leslie Fhima from The Golden Bachelor and fan-favorite Gary Levingston from The Golden Bachelorette as a few seniors already announced to be joining the beach alongside younger Bachelor Nation alums.
🛥️ This Below Deck Issue Must Be Addressed

Bravo’s popular reality TV franchise Below Deck, which follows crew members working aboard luxury yachts, continues to struggle with serious safety concerns. Multiple seasons across the franchise have featured recurring consent issues, raising questions about production’s commitment to cast safety. Below Deck Down Under’s third season represents the latest in a troubling pattern that spans several shows within the franchise.
The problems aren’t isolated to a single series. Below Deck Down Under has faced consent issues in both its second and third seasons, with season 2’s Luke Jones being fired after attempting to enter unconscious stew Margot Sisson’s bed. Meanwhile, Below Deck Sailing Yacht’s Gary King faces serious allegations of sexual assault from production staff and is currently involved in legal proceedings.
Here’s a list of the recurring problems we’ve noticed:
-
Problematic “boatmance” editing that fails to provide complete context for crew interactions
-
Inconsistent enforcement of safety protocols during crew nights out
-
Casting choices that prioritize drama over professional conduct
-
Insufficient supervision during high-risk situations involving alcohol and close quarters
-
Delayed production intervention when problematic behavior first emerges
-
Tendency to use questionable behavior as storylines rather than addressing it promptly
Without significant changes to how problematic cast behavior is monitored and addressed, some viewers have indicated they may begin actively avoiding the shows altogether, potentially threatening the long-term viability of one of Bravo’s top-rated franchises.
