RuPaul's Drag Race

RuPaul’s Drag Race is a reality competition show that showcases the talent and creativity of drag queens as they compete to be crowned America’s Next Drag Superstar.

Overview

RuPaul’s Drag Race is a reality competition television series that previously aired on VH1 but will now air on MTV for Season 15. The show was created and is hosted by RuPaul, a well-known drag queen, actor, and singer. The show first aired in 2009 and has since gained a large following and spawned numerous spin-off series, including RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars and RuPaul’s Drag Race UK.

Gameplay/Challenges

In RuPaul’s Drag Race, the contestants compete in various challenges each episode in order to impress the judges and avoid elimination. These challenges can involve creating and performing in drag, showcasing other talents such as singing, dancing, or acting, or participating in mini-games or other activities.
The challenges are usually followed by a runway portion, where the contestants must showcase their fashion sense and creativity through their outfit choices. The judges then critique the contestants’ performances and decide who will be safe and who will be up for elimination. Generally, each episode ends with one queen being eliminated, but rarely will there be an episode with zero or multiple eliminations.

Lip Sync for Your Life/Eliminations

At the end of each episode, a lip sync battle is held between the bottom two performers. During the lip sync battle, the two contestants perform a song while lip syncing and dancing. The judges then decide which of the two contestants will be eliminated based on their performances.

The elimination ceremonies are typically held at the end of each episode, and the contestant who is eliminated must “sashay away” (leave the competition). The elimination ceremonies are usually dramatic and emotional, as the contestants often form close bonds with each other and are disappointed to be leaving the competition.

The Grand Finale

The final episode of each season features a lip sync battle between the remaining contestants, and the winner is crowned America’s Next Drag Superstar and receives a cash prize and other prizes. The elimination ceremonies during the final episode are usually more elaborate and involve the eliminated contestants returning to the show to congratulate the winner.

Prizes

The prize for winning a maxi challenge typically includes a cash prize (usually $5,000) and other rewards, such as a supply of cosmetics or other products.

The winner of The Grand Finale will take home $200,000, with the runner-up likely securing a cash prize as well.

Judges

The judges for the show are RuPaul, Michelle Visage, and a rotating panel of guest and celebrity judges.

Miss Congeniality

The “Miss Congeniality” award is given to a contestant who is voted as the most congenial or likable by their fellow competitors. The award is typically presented at the end of the season, and the winner is chosen by a vote among the contestants who participated in that season. The Miss Congeniality award is separate from the main competition, and the winner does not receive a cash prize or any other tangible rewards. However, the title of Miss Congeniality can be seen as an honor, and the winner is often celebrated by fans of the show.
