Hallmark’s Finding Mr. Christmas blends ho-ho-hot guys with holiday spirit, and it’s the network’s first-ever reality competition show that seeks to discover the next Hallmark holiday movie hunk.
Premiering on October 31, 2024, Finding Mr. Christmas airs on Hallmark+ and introduces a unique twist to the traditional reality competition format. Hosted by Hallmark star Jonathan Bennett, the show features ten men competing for the top prize: a starring role in a 2024 Hallmark Channel holiday movie. Set against a picturesque ranch in Utah, the contestants take part in festive challenges and showcase their potential to become the next Hallmark leading man.
The show includes two main competition phases:
Festive Face-Off
Contestants participate in holiday-themed games, such as sleigh-pulling races and cocoa mug relay challenges, where oversized marshmallow-shaped sponges are used to transfer cocoa. These challenges bring excitement and light-hearted holiday cheer to the competition, reminiscent of reality TV staples but with a Hallmark holiday twist.
Star Quality Challenge
Each episode, contestants tackle tasks that highlight their on-screen talent, charisma, and ability to connect emotionally, essential qualities for a Hallmark lead. They rehearse scenes with real Hallmark stars and are judged on their performance, script knowledge, and ability to convey heartfelt emotions.
A challenge winner and bottom two are awarded after the episodes’ competition phases.
While the competition does involve eliminations, Finding Mr. Christmas puts a positive spin on the process. When contestants are sent home at the end of each challenge, they do so with a warm farewell from Bennett: “That’s a wrap. Please take down your stocking and head home for the holidays.” Emphasizing Hallmark’s family values, Bennett encourages contestants to support each other, embodying the holiday spirit even in competition.
The judging panel includes Bennett, co-host Melissa Peterman (Haul Out the Holly), and a rotating roster of guest judges like Hallmark stars Nikki DeLoach and B.J. Britt. These industry veterans provide feedback and support the contestants as they strive to embody the ideal Hallmark man: kind-hearted, funny, and sincere.
The winner will earn a starring role in an upcoming Hallmark film.
Finding Mr. Christmas embodies Hallmark’s values with a feel-good approach to reality TV. Rather than focusing on drama and conflict, the show highlights kindness and camaraderie. Bennett, who has firsthand experience in competitive reality TV, set the tone to create a welcoming atmosphere on set, ensuring contestants feel supported both on and off camera. This lighthearted yet meaningful competition allows Finding Mr. Christmas to seamlessly integrate the spirit of Hallmark into the reality TV format, providing audiences with an uplifting and wholesome viewing experience.
