Jan Dan (Najee Daniels), a 29-year-old from Newark, New Jersey, is proudly representing Team Gwen in The Voice Playoffs. His stage name pays homage to his given name, Najee Daniels, with “Jan” being “Najee” spelled backward and “Dan” representing the first letters of his last name. Music runs deep in Jan Dan’s family. His mom, Fundisha, is a singer-songwriter who signed with Jermaine Dupri’s So So Def label and moved the family to Atlanta when Jan was 10. His uncle, LaShawn Daniels, a Grammy-winning songwriter and producer, was a major influence on Jan’s musical journey. In 2019, Jan Dan’s world was shaken by LaShawn’s tragic passing in a car accident. Though devastated, Jan drew strength from his uncle’s legacy. Initially hesitant to pursue music full-time, he chose the safer route of culinary school after high school. However, his confidence grew over the years, and he embraced his passion, recalling his uncle’s words of encouragement. Today, Jan is fully committed to honoring his family’s musical heritage by writing, recording, and producing. Often collaborating with his wife, Nicole, Jan is eagerly anticipating the arrival of their first child, feeling that now is the perfect time to embrace his dreams.
